Steven

Do it in safe mode:

To prevent getting future viruses, try staying on commonly used websites by the public.

P.S. Symantec (Norton), and McAfee are both crap. AVG and Avast, those free pieces of crap are even worse. DO NOT LISTEN to half the idiots that will or did post to get one of those.

Because Norton is a virus itself. Get McAfee anti-virus protection instead....much better!!!

Dustin

The best way to kill this is to pull the hard drive and hook it up to another computer and scan it remotely. However, I don't know the level of your tech skills, so I'll assume that's too hard. As a starting point, I would run Hijack this. HijackThis is a tool that lists all the startup entries on your computer. You can find it at merjin.org.
For a worm/virus to run it has to get started. So if we can kill the entry that starts the virus we can stop it. If you post a log file from that program then I, or someone like me, can help you decide what to disable. Then you run Hijack This, click the check boxes next to the items that need to be disabled and click Fix. Restart the computer and scan again. If it is gone, then you delete the files run LSPfix and you are done.

There is no fast easy fix for virus removal unfortunately. It can effect many different areas of a PC and can be very tricky, but this should be a good starting point.

Jim

yes it could be a virus, a virus can do anything, but i doubt its a spyware since it needs internet for the hacker to access you computer. try scanning your pc with an external anti virus, by conecting the external hard drive which has the anti virus to ur pc and scanning

Carrie

Restart your PC in safe mode

And run a full scan with both your Anti-spyware and Anti-virus software..

You may also want to have a look at your start up items by using msconfig.

Be careful with the items you uncheck, you can have a look here to see if they are necessary
